Tuesday Chic Spotlight: Krystle C.

This week's Tuesday Chic is truly inspirational.  From designing clothes (I still have a skirt she created while we were in undergrad) to being a true inspiration to any natural (or anyone with hair lol).  I was so excited to feature her this week....Tuesday Chic:

{Krystle C.}

On Hair...

1) What is your favorite hairstyle to rock?
My all time go to favorite is my wash n go.  It's like the the easiest, self-expressive, non-manipulated, carefree, unpredictable hairstyle you can ever have.  I have had long curls, traded them in for short ringlets, I straighten on occasions (maybe twice a year), buns etc.  At the end of the day, you can never go wrong with your wash n go.  I get so many people wanting to touch it or asking what products I use and my regiment.  My Fiance LOVES my wash n go, and his vote matters the most.

2) What is your hair "anthem"?
I don't really have a hair anthem, more like hair idols.  My very first hair idol was Denise from the Cosby's (laugh now). I wanted hair like hers but my grandma quickly relaxed my hair because it was "too thick."  Then, Kelis in her "Out There" video.  I have followed her for years!  I think my natural hair idol is Elle Varner, I love her hair! I think she is my next hair goal.

3) Three words to describe your hair?
Fun...beautiful...me.

4) How long have you been natural and what made you go natural?
I have been natural for a little over five years.  I have always gravitated to curly hair but I hadn't seen my natural hair in so long, I didn't know what it looked like.  My other problem was that I didn't know how to care for it (before blogs and YouTube explosion), so that always kept me from going natural.  What made me go natural was when my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  Breast Cancer is the one thing that scares me, so I decided I was done.  I cut my hair off with my mother who was going through chemotherapy at the time and never turned back.  Then in 2010, the Breast Cancer returned, I cut it off again with her when she went through chemotherapy and it's finally growing back.  It's currently at shoulder length with shrinkage.

On Fashion and Other Things...

5) What is one fashion trend you wish would stop?
The current fashion trend I wish would die is sagging skinny jeans.  Like really?? The purpose??

6) Name one beauty product you cannot live without? Why?
Leave in conditioner.  My hair couldn't live without it.

7) What are the three top pieces in your wardrobe?
My Banana Republic striped blazer (good for print mixing), black Steve Madden wedges, and any maxi dress (can't go wrong).

8) Name three things that are always in your purse?
Lip gloss, phone, and pen and paper, you never know when you will have the next bright idea.

9) Favorite bag and shoes?
Minnetonka 3 layer fringe boots and this hunter green silver studded purse, it goes with everything without going with everything.

10) Anything else you want to add?
Yes! At the time I am working on a "Blogazine" called  Fashion Society Magazine.  We are trying to focus on real people and real fashion.  We have so many blogs that focus on what celebrities are wearing, but the mainstream takes from the streets an we must remember that.  Unfortunately, we are still fairly new so the website is still under construction but we do have a Facebook page...Fashion Society Magazine "Blogazine" where we post up small tidbits.  And as the weather gets better, I will be able to go people watch and look for fashion inspiration to write about.  If anyone would like any details on how to become a part of it, please contact me at krystleskloset@yahoo.com.  We are always looking for upcoming designers to feature, philanthropic fashion events to attend, people who make their own jewelery, just anything pertaining to fashion by the people.  Be on the lookout for us!

And that pretty much sums it up! Be sure to check out Krystle's page! Until next time....

30 for 30 Challenge Day 21: A Picture of your shoe collection

{30 for 30 Day 21: A Picture of your shoe collection}

First off let me say that I decided to highlight only 15 shoes for this photo...mostly because I did not feel like taking any more shoes out of the boxes and lining them up for this photo but also because I thought that would be a bit much.  So yes this picture just reflects fifteen pairs of shoes I can't seem to put down....that's pretty much it of this day of the challenge.

Coming up...trend alert: Pleats! (Yay!!!)

30 for 30 Day 19: A place you want to go but haven't been

Is it me or does it feel like the 30 for 30 challenge is like a new age rendition of the song that never ends?  Anyway on to today's challenge...

Of course I want to go to Milan!  It's one of the top ten fashion capitals of the world!  Oh the joys of all of the fashion...This is a trip I would not want to take unless I had endless spending money...I am just going to post a few pictures from Milan's Fashion Week 2012.

On a random note...who knew the MAC stores had security??? Dressed in official security shirts and all..something to laugh about.

30 for 30...again...

Yes this just won't die huh?  I think this is taking the longest (on top of my failure to do it correctly).  So I am wrapping another 3 30 for 30 posts into one...

{Day 16: A Photo of a Hobby You Love}
Okay so  for Day 16 I am supposed to share a photo of a hobby I love and if you can't tell I really like designing/creating things.  The above picture is a card box that I designed for a friends 30th Birthday.  Scrapbooks, Centerpieces, Card Boxes, Diaper Cakes, just about anything creative and I love to do it.

{Day 17: Some You Crave A Lot}
Yes! I crave sushi (in fact I want some now).  I am officially a sushi head.  I used to have to eat sushi at least once a week when I was living in St. Louis.

{Day 18: Another Self Portrait}
This photo was actually taken on Friday morning (as I was heading to KC)  I really wanted to show of the new Ray Ban eyeglasses I got (I absolutely LOVE them).   As you can see I am rocking that darn leopard scarf again...just can't seem to put that down...sigh....

As for my hair it's a sew in with no hair left out so I guess you can call it an invisible part sew-in (I did it myself...I am pretty impressed) the hair is a wet and wavy kinky curly hair by Model Model (I LOVE this hair)....just wanted to put my hair up while it's cold outside...so this is sort of a "protective" style....

30 for 30 Days 14 &15

Well the next couple of days on 30 for 30 don't call for a huge amount of detail so I figured I could post them together.

30 for 30 Day 15: TV show you are currently addicted to

What can I say I am a sucker for all things Vampire and this show is no exception!  I have been watching this show faithfully since it's premiere in 2009.  I am an originally Twilight fan as well as a True Blood fan so it would be fitting my love for this show.  For anyone interested it airs on Thursdays at 8pm.

30 for 30 Day 14: Your Favorite Musician and why

I know the challenge only asked for one musician but I just couldn't choose one especially when I truly love all of these ladies equally.  Beyonce, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu's music just does something for me. I feel like their music had helped me cope through my many emotions.

30 for 30 Day 13: What's in your makeup bag

Okay I won't lie I was actually really excited about this day of the 30 for 30 challenge.  I must admit I have become quite fancy of makeup these days...shoot I remember a time when I thought a dash of eyeshadow and some clear lip gloss was the best thing smoking now I feel as if I am not complete without some mineral powder or blush and don't let me get started on lipstick....  Anyway the above photo is currently all of "go-to" products (if I am going for a full face).

So what's in my bag.... (in order of use)
1) Oil of Olay sensitive sensitive skin moisturizer - I have to use this before applying foundation my skin gets super dry

2) Sephora primer - what can I say this helps my makeup last what seems like forever

3) Revlon Concealer - I really only use this when I want a complete look

4a) MAC Minerlize foundation - I LOVE this makes me have a really smooth finished look (I use this or #4b  or #4c for foundation just depends on the look I am going for)

4b) Maybeline Fit Me foundation - I love this product too and its great if you don't want to spend a lot of money on MAC or Sephora products

4c) Sephora Matifying compact foundation - I usually wear this for a more casual look

5) Sephora Blush - the color above is romantic rose (I think..not sure which one I grabbed for the photo)

6) MAC paint pot - I know you can barely see it in the photo but this is used to help my eyeshadow last longer

7) Coastal Scents 78 Eye Shadow Palette - Again I cannot stress how great a buy this was!

8) Urban Decay All Nighter Finishing Spray - Again this was another great buy ....this stuff helps my makeup last all day

9) I apply all of this makeup using my Sephora brush set

**Not pictured are some of my lipsticks...I forgot to grab them...but that's pretty much it!

More on 30 for 30....

In so many words I suck at 30 for 30...it's like the days have been getting away from me!  I need to get it together so I am going to do another three 30 for 30 tasks in one most....mostly because these aren't the most interesting to be stand alone posts but also because I am a slacker.....

30 for 30 Day 10: A photo of a childhood memory

I truly LOVE the Smurfs! I grew up on this show and I associate eating doughnuts when I see them.  My mom used to bring us some LaMar's Donuts (in Kansas City).  All I remember is being carefree with a worry or a bill in the world when working was the LAST thing on my mind....all smiles....

Please share your favorite childhood memory.

30 for 30 Day 11: A photo of your favorite restaurant

Yeah..I know exactly what your thinking..in fact I am thinking it right now as I type but hey it's the truth I freaking love this place...mostly because I love seafood but yall know yall like those cheddar biscuits nuff said.

30 for 30 Day 12: A photograph of the town/city you live in

I am currently residing in the city of brotherly love...Philadelphia and this picture is Center City (downtown).  Believe it or not if I completely ignore the roof tops of the houses behind mines I have a view that looks like this from my back yard.....it's pretty freaking amazing.

30 for 30 Day 9: A photo of the last item you purchased

Day 9 of the 30 for 30 Challenge asks that you post a picture of the last item you purchased.  Well I decided to share more than one (mostly because I purchased these items all around the same time).  So I will get right into the items and where they were purchased.
(from top left to bottom right)

1) Contrast Trim Button Up (in peach/black)- Forever 21 $19.50

2) Peach/Black Pumps - Bakers $49.00 (they were on sale)

3) Cream/Black Dress - Bebe $36.00 (this was on sale and I thought this was a great all purpose dress I can wear this to work, church, date, graduation, etc.)

4) Black/White Flats - Bare Feet Shoes $15.00 - I honestly had been looking at these shoes for a while I decided to get them while out shopping with friends because the store had a BOGO half off sale.

5) Black/White Heart Shirt - H&M $12.95 - This shirt has little black fabric button that go down the back...LOVE it!

6) Blue/Black Starred button up shirt - Express $15.00 after the discounts.

7) Teal/Gold Necklace - Forever 21 $6.50 (I think)

8) Heart Earrings - Forever 21 $3.50

And there you have it...I should have an Outfit of Today post coming soon hopefully incorporating some of these pieces.

30 for 30 Continued......

So I am such a slacker and now its time for me to play catch up!!!  Instead of only doing one 30 for 30 I am going to do THREE!  I have been a little busy with traveling and it sort of threw me off my plans.

30 for 30 Day 6: A Photo of A Sunset/Sunrise
Okay, so this is a picture of a Sunrise in Jacksonville, FL.  I chose this photo mostly because that is where I was at the moment but also because it was the first morning I woke up in my new residence (technically I will not be living there until August...but you get the point) so it was a meaningful moment...sort of like the start of this new life I am building with someone....

30 for 30 Day 7: A photo of your dream wedding

Okay I know what most of you are probably saying...man that is a lot of decor...but what can I say...you like what you like and I LOVE flowers and decor....If I had it my way Preston Bailey would design my wedding.  I know a lot of people are caught up in David Tutera but I would have to go with Preston Bailey (I mean I have thought long and hard about this as if hiring either of them is a possibility for me).  Any way I think a ceremony or reception that is heavily decorated with draping, candles, flowers, and most of all great chairs (I know this should be minimal but this is like so important to me. There is nothing worse than someone going through all the effort to decorate and then throw in some old horrible chairs...it just throws every thing you did off.)

30 for 30 Day 8: A song to match your mood

Do we even have to ask? Beyonce's Smash Into You is currently reflecting how I feel.  I am in a really happy place in life and love right now. I can honestly say this song has been given me the warm fuzzies for the last two weeks.

So there you have it three 30 for 30 posts at one time....sorry for my tardiness....until next time.

30 for 30 Day 5: A photo of yourself two years ago

Okay so for Day 5 of the 30 for 30 challenge the task was to post a photo of yourself from two years ago.  This photo is from March 2010.  I choose this photo because this was when I had been thinking about going natural but had not made the committment to being relaxer free (it would be a while from this picture before I did).  I was celebrating my 24th birthday and even still had my braces on!  I will forever remember this day.  In this pic I am wearing a sew in with Bobbi Boss hair (btw...I love that hair). So that's it for this challenge me two years ago....

Care to share a photo of you from two years ago???

30 for 30 Day 3: Your idea of a perfect date

For the third day of the 30 for 30 challenge.  I am supposed to share my idea of a perfect date.  Seeing as though I think I am an easy going person.  My idea of a perfect date is pretty simple.  Going out for dinner/drinks and something like bowling (so we can still interact with one another) seems ideal to me.   I'd much rather do something hands on than go sit in a movie theater on a first date.  During the course of the evening I would want the conversation to be diverse without any of those dull awkward silence moments.  Overall I would really just want the guy to be a gentleman and to genuinely be involved in the conversation.  When I think back on my first date with my boyfriend it took as a couple of tries before we actually made it out (because of me) but once we did we enjoyed dinner and drinks together and had great conversation and I am almost positive that's the reason he got that second date...

What about you all have any perfect first date stories to share?

30 for 30 Day 2:A photo of something you ate today

Well it's Day 2 of the 30 for 30 challenge and the goal was to take a photo of something I ate today.  As I mention yesterday I have some friends in town so it was only right to go out for a Philly Cheesesteak.  However, as you can see that is not steak in the picture...it's chicken.  We went to Ishkabibbles on South Street in Philadelphia and what is pictured above would be the original South Philly Chicken cheeseteak....made with chicken, spinach, peppers, and provolone cheese.  I was told while deciding to order that this is Will Smith's favorite thing to order from Ishkabibbles.  I will say I was satisfied.

I am looking forward to tomorrow's challenge....it's a romantic one! Until next time.....

30 for 30 Day 1: Take a photo of yourself and say how your day was

So the first task on my 30 for 30 list was to take a photo of myself and say how my day was.  So technically this was taken yesterday with the intention of posting it yesterday however I just figured I couldn't say how my day was without actually completing my day....Anyway I will just jump straight into the photo I selected.  I was actually doing my hair for preparation of work for Thursday.

In This Photo I am wearing...
Gray and white button up I purchased from Forever 21 with a pair of jeans and some brown snow boots from H&M.   The glasses I have on were purchased at Claire's.

On my hair...
A twist out on dry hair with the back pinned up.

In terms of how my day was....
In so many words my day was pretty great. I got off work around 1pm (don't you just love half days). I had friends come into town (Philly) last night so we were out making up for lost time.  Since I didn't have to work today (Friday) I even had a few drinks.
