Hair Spotlight: Hair Products I Love!

As a new natural I have found myself to be a bit of a product junkie. I constantly find myself in the market for new products whether it is conditioner, shampoo, oils, etc. you name it I am always trying it. As some of you may or may not know Target has started selling (in select stores) lines of various natural hair products (you do not have to be "natural" to use these products). Target carries brands like Miss Jessie's (which I have not used), Kinky Curly, Jane Carter, Yes to Carrots/Cucumber, and more. However I wanted to take some time to highlight a particular line of hair products I am currently in love with: Shea Moisture. I recently attended a natural hair meetup hosted by Curly Nikki (in August) and they passed out a goodie bag with several products and from that point I was pretty much hooked. I particularly love the coconut & hibiscus line of products (curl enhancing smoothie, hold and shine, shampoo). The Shea Moisture line can be purchased at Target, Walgreens, and Walmart. Tell me...what are some of your favorite products?

Mini Haul: Fall Nail Polish!!!

Why am I soo obsessed with nail polish??? Fall brings a need to change up my polish game. Darker, deeper, and rustier (is that even a word) colors just seems fitting. For most polish collectors the name OPI is more than likely a household name...well at least for me it is. For those who don't already know know OPI's Touring America Collection is so fitting for the fall there are pops of color as well as some of those deep dark colors I mentioned earlier. On to the haul...I picked up four new polishes (3 OPI 1 Forever 21). Forever 21 is a great alternative for ladies who are strapped for cash or just don't want to spend $8.50 on a bottle of nail polish. The polis sells for about $2.50 and they have a host of colors (bright and dark) and it has a pretty decent last time. I posted a pic of the bottles of polish I picked up to get my fall polish season off to a great start. From left to Rust (Forever 21) This color makes for a great top coat..it's a sheer rusty gold color. Second, Suzi Takes the Wheel (OPI) this is a solid grey color perfect for fall. Next, is I Brake for Manicures (OPI) this is a very very dark purple color so dark it could almost look black just until the right light hits it. Lastly, Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window (OPI) this is a camo green color that would look pefect against brown.

Trend Alert: Are Consignment Stores the new Forever?

As a frequent reader of blogs and you tube subscriber I have noticed the trend of people shopping at consignment stores. I too have fallen victim to this amazing trend and I wanted to share some of my favorite spots (in the St. Louis area) and some of the spots that I just haven't had as much luck. My all time favorite consignment store in St. Louis is Women's Closet Exchange (http://www.womensclosetexchange.net/) now this is place where you can get gently used designer brands (Louis Vuittion, Gucci, Michael Kors, Christian Louboutin, and more) for a fraction of the price in addition the ladies who work there are so amazing! Other great consignment stores in the area are Plato's Closet and The Scholar Shop for everyday brands. On the other hand places like the Goodwill I have not had very much luck at (womp, womp, womp). I was excited because the ladies on YouTube are always showing fab items they have picked up from there I just haven't had that experience in the STL area. Tell me how you feel about this latest trend? Are there any consignment stores you love or hate?

Sound Check: J Cole

If anyone knows me they know I am an R&B girl (with the exceptions of Weezy, Drizzy, and Kanye). However after taking the time to sit back and listen to J Cole's Album, Cole World: The Sideline Story I may have to add him to the list of Rap Artists I can roll with. His album reminds me of "old" Kanye (before the rap-singing started) mixed with Drake. In my opinion some of the hottest tracks include: Can't get Enough (which features Trey Songz), Mr. Nice Watch, and Nobody's Perfect( with Missy Elliot). So for all you peeps interest in a new Rap album to your collection I'd say it was definitely worth checking out.

Trend Alert!!!! Chokers are in!

As you may or may not know choker necklaces have found their way back into the heart of fashion. This article of jewelry was something that was really popular in the 90's but as you know fashion among other things repeats itself. The choker is known to be one of the sexiest necklaces around and it casts others eyes to focus on your neckline and above. For you fashionistas on a budget like myself you can cop a choker from forever 21 (http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=f21&Category=acc_necklace&ProductID=1086807536&VariantID=) for about $7.50

Am I My Hair???

I know this is a much touched on topic but I feel like I need to put my spin on it. I did a big chop on my hair in March 2011 because I decided I to was ready to join the rest of the natural community. Since then I have experienced many trials and tribulations. To weave or not to weave? To color or not to color? And the biggest one of all to straighten or not to straighten. My journey has been an adventurous one filled with straight weaves, curly ones, short, long, kinky, Remy, silky you name it I have probably tried it. All of this to ask the final question of "Am I my hair"? I can honestly admit my hair is a huge driving point in how I am feeling on a particular day.....If it's long and straight I am feeling really chic. When its short and curly and in a fro-hawk I feel funky. So my question to you is....Are you your hair???? I have posted a few pics of my transition the first being me in August 2011with the last being right after my the big chop in March 2011.
