{Get Fit in 30 Day 3}

Today's get fit challenge is more physical that the previous two days.  The challenege for today is to do 30 minutes of cardio with a five minutes stretch period.  Sounds easy right?  So join me in today's challenge.

Recap of yesterday:  Who said fruit all day was easy?  Things started out fine but once lunch time rolled in ans people started warming up their food the smells were really getting to me.  So I tried imagining that my strawberries and my pinapples were chicken and biscuits lol.  So the next time I do this I am going to swtich it up maybe make me a smoothie and eat my fruit just so I feel like I am switching it up a bit.

Heads Up:  Tomorrow nice good workout!

Nails of the Week: Stripe Flow

This week's nails were inspired by me wanting to try something funky.  I wanted to use to colors but spice it up a bit.  I reached way back in time for the Kiss black stripe polish ($1.99 from your local beauty supply store) and OPI's Golden Rules!  I actually really love the OPI color it took me forever to find a gold that I loved so I never want to let it go.  See more pictures of my nails below:

Tuesday Chic Spotlight: Lily

It's Tuesday!  This week's Tuesday Chic Spotlight is Lily.  She is naturally fab and loving it.  Check her out.

{Lily}

On Hair...

1) What is your "Hair Anthem"?
Unpredictable by Jamie Foxx

2) What are three words to describe your hair?
I would have to say thick, bold, and beautiful.

3) What is your favorite hairstyle to rock?
I would have to say the twist/braid out and the puff, they are my go-to's.

4) What have you been doing to maintain healthy hair?
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize...protective styling, oh yeah did I say moisturize? Lol. I co-wash just about every day except when I am being lazy.  I try to eat healthy and also incorporate large quantities into my diet.

5) What is the best part about having textured hair?
Definitely the versatility.

6) How long have you been natural and what made you go natural?
I've been natural about 17 months.  I decided to go natural after I realized that it was pointless to relax my hair.  I am an islander and I could never find the right hairdresser.  My hair would become dry with no movement soon after my relaxer application I decided to cut and color...which was more so out of frustration. My hair began to shed profusely and had stopped growing in length.  That's when I put my foots down and said no more,  I put some thought into the whole transition and decided to make it a reality in the new year 2011, it was there that I realized that health was a key part in growing and retaining length, ever since then I have been in love with my curly, coily, wave mane and I've  never regretted the decision!

7) What is the most unexpected thing you have experienced with your hair?
I'd have to sat TEXTURE! That was the one thing that never crossed my mind, that I would be dealing with multiple textures and although it gets frustating at times I have learned different ways to deal with it. The front of my hair is like a loose wave and the back and nape is a mix between curls and coils which makes it difficult to have the perfect wash ans go {sigh}.

On Fashion and Beauty...

8) Name one product that you cannot live without? Why?
Lip gloss/balm.  My lips are the kind that can't go on without being unnoticed so it is essential that they are mositureized.

9) Name three things that are always in your purse?
Lip gloss, gum, and money (pocket change lol).

10) Favorite bag and shoes?
Bag? I am not really a fan but I do like wedge heels even though I don't wear them often.

11) What is your favorite fashion trend of 2012?
Animal Print.

12) Anything else you want to add?
Thanks for having me on your blog.  Your awesome *wink wink*!

And there you have it! Lily!

Trend Alert: Crochet

Some of us love it and some of us hate it but one trend you can't deny is Crochet!  Whether it's a dress, a shirt, shorts, or in our accessories one thing is true this trend is definitely the talk of the town this season.

Why it's loved:
* It's prefect for the summer season
* It has a vintage charm so it never really goes "out of style"
* It's hip!

How to rock it:
* As a tunic over a binki
* A dress with some nice sandals for a day in the park
* If pairing it with another material it's best worn with something that is subtle (jeans, etc)

Not quite bold enough to pull off a crochet shirt or dress?  Try wearing some crochet accessories like a necklace or a pair of sandals and you will be well on your way!

Tuesday Chic: Saidah B.

It's Tuesday!!  This week's Tuesday Chic Spotlight feature rocks her own style and is also naturally glam.  Tuesday Chic:

{Saidah B.}

On Hair...
1)  What is your hair anthem?
Call your Girlfriend by Robyn (lol).  This song is really free, fun, and fresh which I believe describes my hair.

2) What is your favorite hair style to rock?
I love to wear my hair in many styles but I would have to say wearing a two strand twist out and braided up-do's are my favorite.  I love that I can let my hair be free with some style to it.

3) What have you been doing to maintain healthy hair?
To maintain my healthy hair, I was my hair once a week, and I usually do a Bantu Knot or a twist out at night.  I make sure that I use moisturizer and oils every morning.  I also drink lots of water and don't over stimulate my hair.  I DON'T use heat or harsh chemical in my hair.

4)Three words used to describe you hair?
Free, loved, and happy.

5) How long have you been natural and what made you decide to go natural?
I have been natural for about 13 months now.  I decided to go natural, when I realized that I was allowing my hair to consume my life.  I was SICK and tired of being a slave to my hair and the long hours in the salon.  I would spend at least $100 a month my hair to be permed, colored, styled, cut, or weaved.  Once I finally made the decision to go natural, my friends and family did not take me serious, I men they were taking bets on how long it would be before I went back to a relaxer.  But I knew this was the real thing and I wasn't going back.  Honestly, I am glad I didn't because I am soo much more confident now.

6) What is the best part about having textured hair?
The best part is the waves.  I have naturally wavy hair but since I have been natural I have noticed it becoming more curly, as well.

7) What advice would you give someone that is considering going natural?
 I would suggest to really think about it if this is something you want to commit to.  Being natural requires more tenderness and attention to your hair then relaxed.  Being natural means your allowing your own natural hair to grow, curl, and twist as it pleases.  Sometimes it's a lot easier for your hair to get tangles in combs, hair ties, and brushes...however despite of all these things, being natural is wonderful and joyful.  I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

On Fashion and Other Things....

8) Name three things that are always in your purse?
Money, sunscreen, and my makeup bag.

9) What is your favorite fashion trend of 2012?
I love the high-low, pleated shirt, and animal print trends.

10)  What is one beauty product you cannot live without?
I can't live without my oil mixtures, like olive oil, almond oil, and coconut oil mixed together.  I love the way it smells together, it helps sooth my hair from dryness and itching.

That pretty much sums it up!  I can agree about that oil mixture I love it!!!

Hair in the nude...hair update and mini look of the day

Okay so this past weekend I decided to attend a natural hair event that was taking place in Jacksonville....the event didn't quite turn out as expected but I did meet a few new curlies and that is always exciting.

So I figured I could do a hair update...I will post some pictures of my hair after shampooing with no product on it and few of how it is when it was dry. Since I am in the spirit of posting pictures I will do a couple of my look for that day (nothing special lol).

Nails of the Week: Just Spotted

So this week's nail of the week is using OPI's "Just Spotted the Lizard."  This greenish metallic color comes from OPI's Summer 2012 Spiderman collection.  In case you are were wondering yes it is one of the colors in the Summer Beauty Flow Giveaway.  I decided to get this color because of what I think is trending in nail polish.  This color gives off a sheen that is almost like that of the "mirrored" nails trend that is going on. See pictures for how the color wears on nails below.....

On another unrelated note ......I have some serious guilty pleasures.....
Of course you all know that my Favorite YouTube series (The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl) is back for a second season this month and I am beyond geeked (I did a whole post on this show a while ago here).   Who is excited??? ME
