Tuesday Chic: Brittanie R.

Okay I know its been a couple of weeks since I did a Tuesday Chic spotlight but I am back and with a bang!  This weeks spotlight chic is Brittanie Roldan! I love her sense of style and I am sure you all will enjoy this spotlight so on to the interview:

Brittanie R.

On Hair......

 1) What have you been doing to maintain healthy hair?
Natural is definitely the way to be! I find it to be so much easier to maintain.  I simply get a shampoo/deep condition every two weeks and my ends trimmed once a month!  I think it's essential to get your ends trimmed once a month if you really want your hair to grow.  Split ends will eventually lead to breakage!

2) What hair product can you not live without?
Redsken  Edge Control!  It gives a natural shine and somewhat of a wavy texture instead of the slickback look that gel does. It also doesn't flake or make your hair hard. EW!

On fashion and other things.....

3)  What would you say your fashion style was? (bohemian, chic, glam, vintage etc)
I would probably say a mixture of chic and vintage! I have picked up thifting as a hobby and it's so much fun!

4) What are three things that are always in your purse?
I would say my MAC "Hug Me" Lipstick in Nude (this goes with ANY look), my compact mirror, and carmex (sorry I am addicted).

5) What are your current favorite bag and shoes?
I would have to say my cognac colored flat boots and my cognac color Louis Vuitton purse.  I love when Louis Vuitton bags get older and the leather changes to that cognac color and looks more vintage.  These colors go with anything... I love wearing it with ALL black.

6) Who is your current style/glam idol?
Kourtney Karshasian...her style is so super cute!  She can be cutesy, dressy, and casual chic! I love it!

7) What do you predict to be a huge fashion trend for 2012?
I think fun prints are still going to be a big hit and also COLOR BLOCKING..I have seen a lot of Spring layouts with lots of color blocking!

8) What are the three top pieces in your wardrobe?
Right now, I love my Cheetah scarf, Cognac flat boots, and all of my Tory Burch Flats....I'm pretty sure I have worn out these pieces all over fall and winter! Lol

And there you have it.....Brittanie R!!!!

Product Review: Green Tea Hair Mask

Okay so one of my New Year's resolutions is to make at least one homemade hair or beauty product each month.  I created this resolution mostly because I just wanted to try new things but I also wanted a chance to provide you all some reviews of these products.  So for January I made a Green Tea Hair Mask.  This hair mask is supposed to stimulate healthy hair growth.  It will especially help if you have thinning hair or hair loss.

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons of Green Tea - Strong
1 tablespoon of Mustard Powder
1 Egg Yolk

To prepare:
Mix all ingredients until you reach a creamy consistency.  If the substance becomes super thick you can add more green to it.

To Apply:
Part hair into quads and apply mixture
Cover with cap and leave in for 15-25 minutes
Rinse hair thoroughly
Shampoo and condition as normal

My take:

Overall this mask was nice.  It didn't have the most pleasant smell.  After rinsing there was no noticeable change.  I personally feel this is one that you have to do a number of times over time before you see any real results.  All in all it's nothing that is going to be added to my hair regimen.

Don't be afraid to try it..you might actually like it....and no you don't have to be natural to try it....until next time....

30 for 30 Day 5: A photo of yourself two years ago

Okay so for Day 5 of the 30 for 30 challenge the task was to post a photo of yourself from two years ago.  This photo is from March 2010.  I choose this photo because this was when I had been thinking about going natural but had not made the committment to being relaxer free (it would be a while from this picture before I did).  I was celebrating my 24th birthday and even still had my braces on!  I will forever remember this day.  In this pic I am wearing a sew in with Bobbi Boss hair (btw...I love that hair). So that's it for this challenge me two years ago....

Care to share a photo of you from two years ago???

30 for 30 Day 4: Favorite photo of your best friends

The fourth task on the 30 for 30 task list is to post your favorite photo of your best friends.  This picture is great all but one my besties are pictured here.  We were in the lobby of the W Hotel in Los Angeles about a year ago for All Star Weekend.  I Love this photo for many reasons but most of all because we were all together on one of our "semi" annual trips.  This year were heading to Puerto Rico and I am pretty excited.

Do you have a favorite photo of you and your best friends?  Care to share a memory?

Spring 2012 Makeup Trends

With the Spring approaching I thought it would be great to talk about some makeup trends for the coming season.  Some are old and some are new however I hope you all find this useful...

1) Red Lips - This classic chic look is back again.  Designers have a variety of shades to choose from.  Whether it's Scarlet, Crimson, Glossy, or Vintage red is definitely in for spring 2012.

2) Modern Cat Eyes - dramatic liners, adding colors, southern belle swoops, and even squared off cat eyes are taking a new dramatic turn.

3) Extreme Smokey Eye -this trend is has returned for Spring 2012.  This year really smudge out that smokey eye.

4) Doll Lashes - These popular show stoppers are a trend from the Jazz era to the runway.

5) Rosebud Lips - These romantic style lips are in and are prefect for a date night.

30 for 30 Day 3: Your idea of a perfect date

For the third day of the 30 for 30 challenge.  I am supposed to share my idea of a perfect date.  Seeing as though I think I am an easy going person.  My idea of a perfect date is pretty simple.  Going out for dinner/drinks and something like bowling (so we can still interact with one another) seems ideal to me.   I'd much rather do something hands on than go sit in a movie theater on a first date.  During the course of the evening I would want the conversation to be diverse without any of those dull awkward silence moments.  Overall I would really just want the guy to be a gentleman and to genuinely be involved in the conversation.  When I think back on my first date with my boyfriend it took as a couple of tries before we actually made it out (because of me) but once we did we enjoyed dinner and drinks together and had great conversation and I am almost positive that's the reason he got that second date...

What about you all have any perfect first date stories to share?

30 for 30 Day 2:A photo of something you ate today

Well it's Day 2 of the 30 for 30 challenge and the goal was to take a photo of something I ate today.  As I mention yesterday I have some friends in town so it was only right to go out for a Philly Cheesesteak.  However, as you can see that is not steak in the picture...it's chicken.  We went to Ishkabibbles on South Street in Philadelphia and what is pictured above would be the original South Philly Chicken cheeseteak....made with chicken, spinach, peppers, and provolone cheese.  I was told while deciding to order that this is Will Smith's favorite thing to order from Ishkabibbles.  I will say I was satisfied.

I am looking forward to tomorrow's challenge....it's a romantic one! Until next time.....

30 for 30 Day 1: Take a photo of yourself and say how your day was

So the first task on my 30 for 30 list was to take a photo of myself and say how my day was.  So technically this was taken yesterday with the intention of posting it yesterday however I just figured I couldn't say how my day was without actually completing my day....Anyway I will just jump straight into the photo I selected.  I was actually doing my hair for preparation of work for Thursday.

In This Photo I am wearing...
Gray and white button up I purchased from Forever 21 with a pair of jeans and some brown snow boots from H&M.   The glasses I have on were purchased at Claire's.

On my hair...
A twist out on dry hair with the back pinned up.

In terms of how my day was....
In so many words my day was pretty great. I got off work around 1pm (don't you just love half days). I had friends come into town (Philly) last night so we were out making up for lost time.  Since I didn't have to work today (Friday) I even had a few drinks.

Random: Misadventures of Ackward Black Girl

Okay so I know this is random but ever since a friend of mines put me on this in November I have not been able to stop watching this YouTube series.  I find the Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl (ABG) to be funny, romantic, and very realistic.  I know what your thinking "who sits and watches TV on the net"..I do (especially Monday-Friday lol) and I must say I have fallen in love with this series and the main character J and hopefully you will love it so...check it out. The creator is actinggirl112.

On the Healthier Side.....

So with this being the start of a new year everyone is going through their diet/workout craze.....yes I am one of those people (in my defense I plan to stick this one out).  I thought I would share with you all what I am eating on as I go through my South Beach Diet.  The picture above is a small serving of what the South Beach Diet calls "Chock Full of Veggies Chili" and what I'd like to call the best darn salad I have ever made.  Below you will see some more pics and the recipes/ingredients that I used to make both.  I really did enjoy the chili and I recommend making it.

Chock Full of Veggies Chili
Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon  extra virgin olive oil

2 Bell Peppers (any color) chopped
1 1/2 cups of chopped mushroom (please note I did not use this)
1 large onion chopped
2 Celery stalks chopped
3 Garlic cloves minced
1 tablespoon chili powder (I used way more than that)
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon ground cumin (I used way more than that)
1/4 teaspoon of salt
2 cans of pinto beans (15 ounce) (I only used one)
1 (14.5 ounce) can of diced tomatoes, no salt added, with juices

Directions:
In a large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat.  Add peppers, mushrooms, onion, celery, and garlic; cook, stirring, until vegetables begin to soften, about 7 mins.  Add chili powder, oregano, cumin, and salt; cook, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes more.  Add beans and tomatoes with their juices (I drained most of the bean juice).  Bring to a gentle simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until chili is fragrant ans slightly thickened, 25 to 30 minutes.

Salad
Ingredients:
Spring Salad Mix
Red Onion
Green Peppers
Yellow Peppers
Red Peppers
Tomatoes
Olives
Green Onion (Scallions)
Cucumber
Oregano Seasoning
Wishbone Fat Free Italian Dressing

December Obsessions!!!

Starting this month I decided I would share/recap the items/products I used/wore the most the month before. I will be doing this at the beginning of each month.  In December I was in love with a bunch of well random items...some new some old however I just could not put them down.  I posted a picture above so you could visualize the items I am referring to.

My December Obsessions:

1) Urban Decay Cosmetics All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray - The large bottle pictured costs about $29 and the smaller bottle (the one I have) cost $11 both can be purchased from Sephora. What can I say this stuff is A-Mazing! It helps your makeup stay on forever.  Even if you don't want to invest $11-29 on a finishing spray if you wear makeup I highly recommend investing in this product.

2) "Shatto" legwear (color midnight black)-  What can I say wearing these (and other tights/hosiery) has become a staple part of winter ensembles.  These can be purchased from Aldo for about $12.

3) Leopard Print Scarf - I purchased this from H&M early in the month this past December.  I have worn it as a turban and as a scarf of course.  This scarf cost about $7-10 sorry I can't remember exactly and it's not posted on their website.

4) Beautiful Curls Shea Butter & Coconut Hydrating Oil - I stumbled upon this oil during my weekly trip to Whole Foods (I LOVE Whole Foods) and it works wonders it leaves my hair feeling moisturized without weighing it down and it smells good.  I purchased this from Whole Foods for $8.99 but I know you can buy it online at the Beautiful Curls website as well.

5) Ugg Women's Edmonton Boots - I know these were on my Christmas wish list and Christmas came early because I wasn't able to put these boots down I love them the are water resistant, warm, and very comfortable.  You can purchase these boots online from the UGG Australia website for about $350 or at any authorized UGG retailer.

6) Revlon ColorBurst Lip Stick (color is Peach) - This lipstick is one of my favorite beauty products right now.  I thought it worked well for the holiday season.  This product can be purchased from your local drug store or Walmart and typically retails for about  $7-8 however CVS always has some kind of sale going on so you can probably find it for cheaper.

7) Red Blazer - Now it wouldn't be December without a little red...I purchased this blazer from Forever 21 for $21 at the time it was one of the yellow tag deals.

8) Aqua di Goia - This perfume is by Giorgio Armani and smells amazing.  Honestly I can't take credit for discovering this scent on my own if it wasn't for a close friend of mines I probably would not have ventured out to smell it less lone own it.

9) OPI Nail Polish (color Meep Meep Meep)- This color is from the Muppet Babies Collection (Fall/Winter 2011) and I loved it last month.  I thought this was a great color for the holiday season.  I purchased this from Jcpenney's (FYI all Jcpenney's sale OPI nail polish buy 1 get 1 50% off)

That pretty much wraps it up for my December obsessions.  Care to share any items you were obsessed with last month?

New Year...New You...2012 Resoultions!!!

Happy New Year's everyone!!!! At the beginning of each year it's common for people to make resolutions in regards to weight loss and saving money (I have those too) however this year I wanted to set some resolutions regarding the care of my hair and fashion choices.  I thought I would share these for several reasons the first was to help hold myself accountable for these promises I am making to myself and the second is maybe these will help inspire you in the creation of your 2012 resolutions.

Hair Resolutions
1) Tie my hair every night with a satin wrap - yes I know this sounds simple but most nights I fall asleep before I really intend to and the end result is a hairstyle not lasting as long as it should and split ends.

2) Speaking of split ends -  my next resolution is to get my ends clipped every 6-8 weeks.  I should be ashamed to say this but I got my ends clipped once the year of 2011 I know I am a horrible person.  But I am sticking to it this year.

3) Try more styles - I tried to spice it up a little by adding some color at the end of 2011 however I need to step out and try something new this year instead of the staple styles I have been wearing.

4) Try at least one Do It Yourself product a month - I am constantly reading up on different hair treatments for hair and I am going to make and review at least one product a month to put the information out these for you all.

Fashion Resolutions

1) If I am not using it I am losing it - I have the tendency to hold on to items I have not used in forever.  This year if I am not using it I am going to sell it to a consignment store or give it to charity.

2) Attend more Fashion Weeks and Fashion Shows to provide more coverage of new trends live from the source.

3) Challenge myself style wise - get bolder and better with my clothing selections.

4) Splurge more on items - If anyone really knows me they know how cheap I am (it's pretty bad)...so this year I plan to increase my budget per item.

So those are my Hair and Fashion resolutions for 2012 I hope this was helpful...What are some of your resolutions? Please share.
