Tuesday Chic: Heather J

Hello again!!! It's Tuesday which means its time for the Tuesday Chic series.  The Chic for this week is Heather J she is fashionable and also natural chica so without any more rambling I present Ms. Heather J!

Heather J

1) What would you say your fashion style was? (Bohemian, chic, glam)
Hmmm, I'd say all three of these are a part of my style.  One day I may be rocking a boho look, the next time I could be very chic.  So I can't really narrow it down to one.

2)  What is your favorite fashion trend of 2011?
Platform pumps! I have 3 pairs - Leopard, Nude patent, and Blush pink suede.

3) What are the top three pieces in your wardrobe?
I would have to say any of my scarves, my gold Michael Kors watch, and my Pink Ruffle Steve Madden coat.

On Being Natural....

4) When did you decide to go natural and what made you decide to go?
I decided to go natural last year...no real rhyme or reason.  I got a sew-in that summer, and after taking it down I decided to not put a relaxer on my hair. I figured I had went that long (3-4 months) let' see how long I can keep this up.  In the interim, I got braids and rod sets.  Finally I could no longer that the 2 different textures, and decided to do the big chop in November 2010.

5) What is your favorite style to rock?
A twist out! It's fun and big :)

Right after BC in Nov 2010
6) What is one product you would be useless without?
I don't have a lot of products because I typically go to the salon - Serenity MYO in St Louis, MO.  I have never had much patience with hair.  However, recently I purchase Virgin Coconut oil for my scalp.  I really like the product, it's not heavy or wet, yet it still leaves my hair feeling hydrated and it doesn't mess up the style (ie: flat twists).

7) What advice would you give to someone that is newly natural?
I would tell them to embrace your natural hair! It's growing put of your scalp...and it's a beautiful thing - no matter the texture or curl pattern.

Second Time Around: Consignment Store

Well after doing a quick Google search on consignment stores near Philadelphia I found a store called Second Time Around.  Now many of you may or may not have heard that name somewhere....I know I had.  Second Time Around has a TV show on UPN (CW) network back in the 2004-2005 season.  The store uses the slogan "Resale goes upscale"  and upscale it is...during my trip to the store I saw Tory Burch shoes, Coach as well as Michael Kors bags.  However I only ended up leaving with a dress (pics below).  If you are interested in visiting a Second Time Around store please visit their website http://secondtimearound.net/locations.aspx for more information.  See a couple of pictures below of the dress I picked up.

Shop Alert!!!! Shop Ekineyo

Tika Sumpter in Ekineyo
Well I was rumbling around the net and I stumbled across a pretty cool clothing site.  Ekineyo is a online woman's clothing boutique that sells dresses, skirts, cropped tops and more...for those of you interested in some clothing that pops I think this is a great site to start.  The prices are fairly reasonable for what you would expect from an online boutique.  The designer Nike Oyelami is making quite a name for herself with stars like Tika Sumpter rocking her "Babe" Dress. I have posted a few pics below if some of the pieces sold online.  Make sure you check the site out: http://www.shopekineyo.com.  I am sure I will be making a purchase soon and when I do of course I will share.

All I Want For Christmas! My Must Haves

Well I was sitting down thinking of my Christmas list I figured instead of putting it on paper I would put on the net...share it with you all maybe even give you a couple of ideas to put on your list....

First I would like a pair of original tall Hunter brand boots in black of course.  I think these boots would make a perfect addition to my boot collection. I really wanted another pair of boots to take me through the rain and snow and I think these would perfect.

Next, I want a copy of Beyonce's 4 Live at the Roseland: Elements of 4 DVD.  I think this pretty much goes without saying.  I am a B fan period.

Since I can't bring in the new year without some new scents I  want to add Giorgio Armani's Acqua Di Gioia to my collection.   So when I hug the boo he is left with lingering thoughts of me.

Lastly, on my list is yet another pair of boots.  The UGG Womens Edmonton boot.  This boot is so amazing just looking at it I think of all the different possibilities

with Christmas near....care to share what is on you list of things you just have to have for Christmas this year

Tuesday Chic Spotlight: Brittany Harris

I told myself I wanted to take some time to interview/talk with ladies I felt were standing out.  Whether they are shining in the hair game, fashion world, socially, whatever.  So I am going to begin a series called "Tuesday Chic" and I plan on doing this series every Tuesday as long as you all allow me.  So without anymore of my rambling madness I will get on with this weeks spotlight.

                      Tuesday Chic: Brittany Harris

1) When did you decide to go natural and what made you decide to go?
I decided to go natural Summer 2010. I worked at a girl's camp at the time, and we dealt with a lot of issues concerning body image and self esteem with our girls.  It became increasingly difficult for me to tell my girls to be comfortable and confident in their own skin, when I was not.  My hair had been a topic of concern for me for quite some time.  Because I was at a camp with limited resources, I tried my best to keep my processed hair healthy and looking presentable. I secretly went through my own image issues surrounding my hair, and the way it made me look. I felt like a hypocrite with my girls and decided that I would undergo the ultimate test of confidence- to cut off the long tresses I had all my life, to go natural. It was hands down, one of the best decisions I've ever made!

2) What is your normal nightly hair routine?

I'm really big on hair care and maintenance. So I before I go to sleep, I massage a small amount of 100% Natural African Shea Butter into my hair and scalp and protect it with a satin sleep cap.

3) What is style is your favorite to rock?
My favorite style to rock is my FRO! It's gotten a lot longer so I usually fro it out and part it on the side. The part makes for a cute style that is appropriate for most occasions.

4) What is the one product you would be useless without?
I'd be useless without my Shea Butter! It locks in moisture, protects my hair from the elements, and I can use it on my hair and skin! It's so versatile.

5) What advice would you give to someone that is newly natural?
I'd tell anyone who is newly natural to be patient with themselves.  The process of going natural is not only a physical change, but an emotional and mental change as well.  Be patient because the confidence to rock your natural texture is not always immediate. It will take time to learn your texture and the products that work best for you.  It will also take time to feel 100% comfortable with the length and texture, especially in a society that values longer/straighter hair.  Love yourself and be good to yourself when embarking on this journey
