Trend Alert: Pleats!

Well this is another one of those full circle trends....Pleats are so in this year.  Whether you wear a pleated skirt, shorts, dress, or pants I think you would be making a great decision.

Little known fact:  Pleats work best when working into a lightweight fabric, they help create a sense of volume without creating a chunky look.

Pleats help focus on movement  so make sure you keep your hair simple

Dont try to iron the soft fabric leave that to the professionals (dry cleaners)

Best Worn With - some kind of strappy heel or chunky heel.

30 for 30 Challenge Day 21: A Picture of your shoe collection

{30 for 30 Day 21: A Picture of your shoe collection}

First off let me say that I decided to highlight only 15 shoes for this photo...mostly because I did not feel like taking any more shoes out of the boxes and lining them up for this photo but also because I thought that would be a bit much.  So yes this picture just reflects fifteen pairs of shoes I can't seem to put down....that's pretty much it of this day of the challenge.

Coming up...trend alert: Pleats! (Yay!!!)

Creating A Hair Care Regimen

Now...this is something that should apply regardless if you are natural or relaxed.  I thought it would be helpful to share what should go into a Regimen and what I am currently doing....

First let's define regimen - A regulated course, as of diet, exercise, or manner of living, intended to preserve or restore health or attain some result.

Why have a regimen- Well most of us want healthy hair, and even more of us want length.  In order for your hair to grow you have to feed it and keep it healthy and establishing a regimen will help with this.

Now to what should be included in a regimen

Pre-Poo (The Pre Shampoo Treatment)
This is the stage where one can use some sort of oil from root to tip cover with plastic cap for at least five minutes. (Done twice a month)

Co-Wash (Using conditioner in place of shampoo so this would not need to be done when you are shampooing, this is a great alternative for those who do not want to shampoo their hair every week)
At this point you would apply the conditioner to your pre-pooed hair (it's recommended that you do not rinse pre poo out first).

Shampoo - pretty self explanatory....however be sure to massage your scalp while shampooing I am told this helps stimulate growth.

Style  as normal....

My Regimen....

I do this every two weeks and in between I replace shampooing with co-washing  with Carol's Daughter Rosemary Mint Conditioner (so I am treating my hair in some way every week)

Pre Poo - I used Beautiful Curlz Oil, I put oil from root to tip and apply a plastic cap, I let oil sit in my hair for about 30 minutes, sometimes I sit under the hair dryer.

Shampoo - I usually use Carol's Daughter Rosemary Mint Shampoo but sometimes I switch it out for Shea Moisture conditioner.

Deep Condition - Here I use my Aubrey Organtics Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner .  I separate my hair into sections and apply to my hair doing a chunky twist as I go.  I usually leave the conditioner in my hair for 30-45 placing a plastic cap over my head and sitting under the dryer.

Style as usual.

There you have it! I hope this was helpful!

30 for 30...again...

Yes this just won't die huh?  I think this is taking the longest (on top of my failure to do it correctly).  So I am wrapping another 3 30 for 30 posts into one...

{Day 16: A Photo of a Hobby You Love}
Okay so  for Day 16 I am supposed to share a photo of a hobby I love and if you can't tell I really like designing/creating things.  The above picture is a card box that I designed for a friends 30th Birthday.  Scrapbooks, Centerpieces, Card Boxes, Diaper Cakes, just about anything creative and I love to do it.

{Day 17: Some You Crave A Lot}
Yes! I crave sushi (in fact I want some now).  I am officially a sushi head.  I used to have to eat sushi at least once a week when I was living in St. Louis.

{Day 18: Another Self Portrait}
This photo was actually taken on Friday morning (as I was heading to KC)  I really wanted to show of the new Ray Ban eyeglasses I got (I absolutely LOVE them).   As you can see I am rocking that darn leopard scarf again...just can't seem to put that down...sigh....

As for my hair it's a sew in with no hair left out so I guess you can call it an invisible part sew-in (I did it myself...I am pretty impressed) the hair is a wet and wavy kinky curly hair by Model Model (I LOVE this hair)....just wanted to put my hair up while it's cold outside...so this is sort of a "protective" style....

Tuesday Chic Spotlight: Sharee S.

Well I can honestly say I couldn't wait to post this week's Tuesday Chic....the girl has sooo much style...I mean it, I have admired her approach for a few years  check out Sharee....

{Sharee S.}

On Hair...

1) What have you been doing to maintain healthy hair?
To help maintain healthy hair I use a sulfate free shampoo, deep condition weekly to ensuring both the moisture and the protein in my hair is balanced, as well as hot oil treatments.  I am currently transitioning to natural so this is my staple regimen.

2) What is your favorite hairstyle to rock?
My favorite hairstyle to rock is heatless pin curls after I have straightened my hair.  It gives that spiral/wavy look to my hair without the use of any additional hot tools (picture of this style to the left).

3) What hair product could you not live without?
I can't live without Paul Mitchell The Conditioner.  It is a great leave in moisturizer.

4) Three words to describe your hair?
Trained, healthy, and luxurious! :-)

On fashion and other things...

5) What would you say your fashion style was?
If I had to categorize my sense of style I would it's effortlessly chic.  My motto is and always has been less is more.

6) What are are the top three pieces in your wardrobe?
The top three pieces in my wardrobe would be my Michael Kors Hamilton Satchel in Luggage, thrifted blazer, and my nude Guess platform pumps.

7) Platforms or Wedges?
Wedges! You can never go wrong with a super cute wedge that is easy to walk in.  Die!

8) What do you predict to be a huge fashion trend in 2012?
My prediction would be bright pastels as a big Spring trend for 2012! Personally I am looking forward to wearing more neutral colors, melon tones, and stripes.

And there you have it! For more of a peak into Sharee's personality check out her Tumblr Vague Dialogue at

Splash into Spring with Seafoam!!!

In planning for my Spring wardrobe (yes planning) I have fallen in love with a color that I am sure will be seen all over the runways...Seafoam.  This color is soft yet makes a bold enough impression that you will leave a lasting impression....see pictures below of some hott items in Seafoam!

In my opinion this color would look great paired with Sand, Coral, Black, Ocean Blue, or Nude..

Tip:  If your choosing a seafoam colored top or dress be sure to pair it with some soft colored makeup....

Hair Check: Multiple Curl Patterns!

As a fairly new natural I know one of my BIGGEST issues is that my curls are different in certain parts of my head.  For example the curls on the left part of my head have more definition than the curls on the right (I feel as sometimes the right side of my head looks like a straight up picked Afro..so not cool when the other half looks like springy coils).  So I just wanted to provide some tips for coping/manipulating your curls....

1) Stick to twist-outs, braid outs, and bantu-knots, these will give your hair a "forced" coil as I like to call it.  These style really help with defining your curls....

2)  Figure out which products work best on each side of your hair....I know this seems like a lot but I will be helpful in the end.  One side of your hair may be more dry than the other and may require an oil based product, while the other may do just fine with a water based moisturizer.

3) If you only have a small section of hair that is different you could finger coil those parts to coax them to take the same (or similar) form as the rest of your head. (please note this could take some time)

4) Try a "funky" hair style - get some of your hair braided and do a blow out (or twist out on the rest).

I find these things helpful....hopefully you do to...until  next time

Tuesday Chic Spotlight: Lyndsey T.

It's Tuesday so you know what time of the week it is! Time for the Tuesday Chic Spotlight.  This week's Chic is Lyndsey T...so without any more babble.....

Lyndsey T

On Hair....

1) What is your favorite hairstyle to rock?
I just recently chopped off all of my hair.  Prior to my new do, I was a weave FANATIC.  I wore every color and style you can imagine.  My "signature" look was my "Diana Ross".  One day you'd see me with a big poofy curls and the next week you would see me with a bob with a touch of pink at the ends.  Just depends on the week.  Currently, I am rocking the natural hair, I consider it to be a mix between Monica's "mizthang" days and Halle Berry.

2) What have you been doing to maintain healthy hair?
I hate hair, but now that I've decided to wear my natural hair I visit the beautician every two weeks for a wash, style,  and I let her have her way.

3) What hair product can you not live without?
Argan Oil.  Not only does it moisturize, but it gives my hair the healthy shine it needs to look beautiful.

On fashion and other things...

4) What would you say your style was?
I wouldn't place a title on my style.  It's whatever I am feeling that day and however I put it together...that is my style.

5) What is your current favorite bag and shoes?
I would say my Carlos Santana shoes and my bronze Jessica Simpson clutch.

6) Who is your current style/glam idol?
Kim Kardashian, Jessica Simpson, and Beyonce Knowles.

Well there you have it....Lyndsey T.  If you would like to be featured in the Tuesday Chic Spotlight please send an e-mail to allthingsrelevant@yahoo.com.

Beauty Rush: Mini Sephora Makeup Haul

While here is Florida again I felt the desire to pick up a few things from Sephora.  Especially with Valentine's Day around the corner I wanted to create a really romantic look.  I had also been eyeing the sculpting disk for a while so I went ahead and purchased it.  Most of these products I haven't had a chance to try but I will try to provide a review of the ones I have tried.

What I purchased:

Sephora Favorites Glitz and Glam Deluxe Sampler Set - $29
What's included....

1) Bare Minerals All Over Color in Glee - This provides an all over glow on your cheeks, forehead, and chin for a goddess like glow.

2) Benefit High Beam - A liquid pink highlighter complexion enhancer.  It helps give off a great sheen to the cheeks.  In my opinion I think this product is great I applied it onto my cheek bones for extra glow.

3) UltraFresh Gold Standard Mascara - Lash booster that gives lush thickness, definition, and length.

4) Stila Lip Glaze (Vanilla) - This lip gloss comes on clear, leaves lips shining, and smells great!

5) Sephora Eyeshadow in Starry Sky - I thought this color looked great on me, I used it when creating smokey eye look.

6) Josie Maran Argan Oil Illuminizer - This bronze shade is perfect for highlighting and adding a beautiful glow.  Have I mentioned that lately I have been addicted to illuminizer/Highlighters so I thought this would make a perfect addition to my small collection.

7) Sephora by OPI nail color (gold) - I had been on a search for a gold polish that wasn't super thin for a while now and I finally got it in this set.  The brushes on the Sephora by OPI nail polish are by far the best brushes on a nail polish I have seen (trust me I have seen a lot).

8) Tarina Tarantino Sparkly Gloss - I love a great lip gloss in my opinion you can never have enough lip gloss this one is great because it thick but not super sticky (how annoying is that).

9) Tarte Celebutante Dry Oil Shimmer - What can I say this is another product that can serve as an illuminizer/highlighter.

10) Buxom Stay there eyeshadow in pug - This is a cream based eyeshadow and is very long lasting I think I will be purchasing a few more of these in different colors.

I also picked up....

11) Sephora by OPI nail color in "I Gotta Blush on You" $9.50- This color is new and a part of Sephora's limited edition collection.  I LOVE this color I have been in the market for this shade of pink for almost a year (I know that's forever for a nail polish) but I am glad I waited and purchased this one just in time for Valentine's Day..yay!

12) Sephora  Sculpting Disk $24 - As I mentioned earlier I had been going back and forth for sometime now trying to decided if I was going to purchase this or not and with a little motivation from the approaching holiday I went a head an purchased this.  What is the sculpting disk? It's three different powders matifying, to give an even matte finish; a blush bronzer, to bronze and define; and a highlighting powder, to illuminate and brighten.  The compact also includes a mirror.  See picture below....

30 for 30 Days 14 &15

Well the next couple of days on 30 for 30 don't call for a huge amount of detail so I figured I could post them together.

30 for 30 Day 15: TV show you are currently addicted to

What can I say I am a sucker for all things Vampire and this show is no exception!  I have been watching this show faithfully since it's premiere in 2009.  I am an originally Twilight fan as well as a True Blood fan so it would be fitting my love for this show.  For anyone interested it airs on Thursdays at 8pm.

30 for 30 Day 14: Your Favorite Musician and why

I know the challenge only asked for one musician but I just couldn't choose one especially when I truly love all of these ladies equally.  Beyonce, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu's music just does something for me. I feel like their music had helped me cope through my many emotions.

January Obsessions!!!

It's that time again!!! Time to recap the item I just couldn't put down last month! Most of these items were Christmas gifts that I seriously put to use... So to get right into things...

1) Black military style boots - I got these from Bakers on sale for like $30 I wore these way more than I should have last month in fact I have them on today.

2) Viva La Juicy - Juicy Couture perfume, this smells amazing I can't even describe it came in a set of three and was a gift so I have no idea what it cost...sorry.

3) OPI Cuticle Oil - this too was a gift but the gift giver must have read my mind because I truly needed this! I gives me a "shop finish" look to my nails I would say this is a must have for anyone that paints their own nails. You can purchase this at Beauty Brands.

4) OPI polish - color is Mermaid Tears.  This is from the Pirates of the Caribbean collection that was released last summer and has always been a favorite of mines and I couldn't put it down last month.  I got this from JcPenney as you all may or may not know they sell OPI polish buy one get on 50%

5) Blistex - Yeah I know this is random but shoot it has been super cold up here in Philly and my lips were taking a beating from the wind so this was one of my go-to products.  You can snatch this up from any Walgreens, CVS, etc.

6) Betsey Johnson "house-booties" - I got these for Christmas and at first I was thinking who gets me name brand house slippers (I just wanted any random pair) but these are GREAT they are comfy and warm and I am pretty sure these came from Macy's if anyone wants to warm their feet in style.

7)  Rusted Gold Leaf earrings ($5)- Now technically I didn't get these earrings until the last two weeks of the month but I wasn't able to put them down.  I picked these up from Pink Elephant (a jewelry store based out of Philly) however they have a website!!! (http://www.pnkelephant.com/)

8) Tan Express "Moto" jacket - Yes Moto style bomber's are it this year and this was also a gift so I don't know the price of it and it was not on the Express website but I am sure you can pick one up from stores like BeBe or one similar from Express.

That pretty much sums up my Obsessions for the month of January!

30 for 30 Day 13: What's in your makeup bag

Okay I won't lie I was actually really excited about this day of the 30 for 30 challenge.  I must admit I have become quite fancy of makeup these days...shoot I remember a time when I thought a dash of eyeshadow and some clear lip gloss was the best thing smoking now I feel as if I am not complete without some mineral powder or blush and don't let me get started on lipstick....  Anyway the above photo is currently all of "go-to" products (if I am going for a full face).

So what's in my bag.... (in order of use)
1) Oil of Olay sensitive sensitive skin moisturizer - I have to use this before applying foundation my skin gets super dry

2) Sephora primer - what can I say this helps my makeup last what seems like forever

3) Revlon Concealer - I really only use this when I want a complete look

4a) MAC Minerlize foundation - I LOVE this makes me have a really smooth finished look (I use this or #4b  or #4c for foundation just depends on the look I am going for)

4b) Maybeline Fit Me foundation - I love this product too and its great if you don't want to spend a lot of money on MAC or Sephora products

4c) Sephora Matifying compact foundation - I usually wear this for a more casual look

5) Sephora Blush - the color above is romantic rose (I think..not sure which one I grabbed for the photo)

6) MAC paint pot - I know you can barely see it in the photo but this is used to help my eyeshadow last longer

7) Coastal Scents 78 Eye Shadow Palette - Again I cannot stress how great a buy this was!

8) Urban Decay All Nighter Finishing Spray - Again this was another great buy ....this stuff helps my makeup last all day

9) I apply all of this makeup using my Sephora brush set

**Not pictured are some of my lipsticks...I forgot to grab them...but that's pretty much it!

Sound Check: Jeff Bernat

Okay if you guys don't already know I am a YouTube junkie I mean I use that site for all purposes (tutorials, product reviews, web series, and most of  all to "discover" new music so in good spirit I am going to share with you all one of my FAVORITE artists (I also love Kat Badar and Zewdy if your interested).  Jeff Bernat is amazing his voice sounds so full of soul and I love it.  I wanted to take the time to spread the word/review his debut EP The Gentleman Approach ( I am in love rt now) and it's just in time for Valentine's Day (for all of you hopeless romantics).  The album is available for digital download for $9.99 and for you cheapo's (LOL) he has a few cover songs (him singing other artists songs) for download for free so  please check it out.  Some of my favorite tracks off the album are (all of them!) but mostly Cool Girls, My Dear, and If you wonder.

You can listen to the full album (or purchase) here:  http://jeffbernat.bandcamp.com/album/the-gentleman-approach

And as a special treat I wanted to post the link to a video of Jeff and Kat Badar (another one of my favorite artists) here:
